До свидания (dasveedaneeye) - Formal way of saying Good-bye

Well I'm dying to hear about your Russian connection!
My mother is Russian, although her family took her to Australia at age 1 (I think) and I visited for the first time when I took her there after Dad died about 6 years ago! Amazing place! I am dying to go back. Spent just 2 weeks in Moscow and St Petersberg - next time doing the Trans-Siberian.
I can understand a lot of Russian but can't speak it - biggest regret of my life not learning - but my grandparents would speak in Russian and their sons (my uncle's would speak in English. Cause my grandparents wanted to assimilate. Only my Mum spoke fluent Russian.
When I took Mum to Russia they all thought she was Russian - we went to buy tickets for the Bolshoi so I told her to get the best seats in the house, my treat - the ticket woman said $200 (or whatever) for your foreigner friends and $10 (or near to it) for you! Everywhere we went she paid local prices and we paid foreign prices. Saved me a fortune, and made it lots of fun!
